Saltiness isn't typically a quality we look for in a beer, but there's actually a unique style called gose which has recently caught on with Toronto's craft beer fans. Originally from a region in Germany called Goslar, the style of beer acquired its savoury flavour from local water sources with high salinity.

Nowadays, modern brewers simply add salt to their recipe to mimic this style. Take Collective Arts for example, which uses pink Himalayan sea salt along with a coriander flavour – another hallmark of the style – to create its goses.

Goses can be an acquired taste, but Collective Arts has released a special one-off that incorporates fruity, floral guava puree to balance out the salinity for a beer that's nicely balanced between zesty, sweet and sour. It's an ideal sipper for backyard barbecues and afternoons on the patio.

Find it at Get Well, Duke's Refresher + Bar, Beer Bistro, The Craft Brasserie and direct from Collective Arts' website.
