Fans of sparkling wine are familiar with this scenario – pop open a bottle and the countdown from fresh bubbly to sad, flat liquid begins. While it usually isn’t a problem if you’re enjoying a bottle with friends or making mimosas for a crowd, it means that solo glasses of sparkling at home are a no-go.

But there’s a new sparkling wine format that solves this problem. Joiy, a prosecco-style Riesling, recently launched its 250 mL can – an ideal serving size that ensures your sparkling wine stays fizzy glass after glass. The can’s lightweight portability makes it easy to bring to a park picnic brunch or backyard bash.

Joiy is made from grapes grown in Waipara, New Zealand and Australia’s Clare Valley. The latter is known for its powerful mineral style while Waipara grapes are aromatic, soft and delicate. The combination of the two in Joiy creates a lovely bubbly that’s naturally sweet and not too dry.

While Joiy is great on its own, you can add a wedge of lemon or lime to enhance its citrus finish or try it as a base in a cocktail with Aperol, cointreau and an orange slice. Just remember to poke the ice cubes to mix instead of stirring so the beverage doesn’t go flat.

$4.85 for 250mL, LCBO.
